The commercial and retail landscape in Australia
According to independent research consultants, there are 78 regional shopping centres across Australia that have at least one department store, and 291 sub-regional centres with at least one discount store as an anchor tenant. In addition, there are 1,120 neighbourhood or supermarket-based centres. These centres, including CBD centres, total 1,630, each exceeding 1,000m2 of gross lettable area (GLA), and all require detailed fire prevention and fire protection strategies to protect their occupants.
The latest figures forecast that commercial and workplace buildings will amount to $43.2 billion by 2025.
Commercial and retail compliance
The NSW Government requires that fire safety statements be inspected and verified by an APFS (Accredited Practitioner Fire Safety). This process requires a fire safety expert to assess whether every fire safety and fire protection measure that applies to a commercial or retail building complies with regulations.
Identifying potential risks and inspecting the building’s fire equipment, such as alarms, sprinkler and fire suppression systems are part of the necessary and regular fire safety assessments that DEM Fire undertakes for our clients.
