In 2019, DEM Fire was a nominee and/or finalist in three categories – following on from major awards in both 2017 and 2018.
About the awards
The Fire Protection Industry Awards are the national fire industry awards judged by an independent panel. Each category has one major prize winner plus finalist awards for the top three of all nominations in any given category.
The awards are run by the Fire Protection Association (FPA Australia) which was founded in 1960 by Mr Harry W Marryatt. Today, the Fire Protection Industry Awards Gala Dinner honours the association’s founding values of excellence – by recognising excellence across the industry.
The 2019 awards evening took place at the Crown Aviary at Crown Melbourne in November. Tom Marshall, Managing Director, Janice Marshall, Co-Owner and WH&S Supervisor, Gloria Morson (proud mother and long time employee) and Gary Marshall, General Manager, represented DEM Fire on the night – along with our nominated finalist: James Morson.
Where we shone
The Fire Protection Industry Awards cover diverse areas ranging from technical expertise to bushfire protection. And this year they introduced a new category: The Emerging Fire Protection Industry Leader Award.
The Emerging Fire Protection Industry Leader Award celebrates industry professionals who are making their mark in the workplace… and we are delighted to report that Mick McGrath, our Compliance and Accounts Manager, was a nominee.
In addition to looking after our compliance issues and managing accounts, Mick is a firefighter with 24 years’ experience, and the Deputy Captain at his local station – so he knows the fire industry inside and out.
Also receiving recognition was James Morson, one of our exceptional sprinkler fitter apprentices. James was a finalist in the Young Achiever of the Year Award, celebrating young leaders who have implemented significant and positive change in their organisations. James had previously completed his electrical apprenticeship with DEM before changing tack and deciding that sprinklers were his calling.
Winning ways with DEM Fire
One of the most prestigious of the FPA Australia awards is the Harry Marryatt Fire Protection Company of the year (50+ employees) award.
Named in honour of the association’s founder, it recognises those companies that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the Australian Fire Protection Industry.
In 2019, DEM Fire was once again a finalist for the award. It’s our third nomination. We were a finalist in 2016… and we were the winner of the award in 2017.
The Harry Marryatt Fire Protection Company award isn’t our only major award. In 2018, we were thrilled to win the Fire Protection Project of the Year award (project total cost less than $1 million). That award recognises excellence in fire management with a focus on collaborative projects between management, design teams, consultant engineers and contractors.
