About Annual Fire Safety Statements

DEM - fire safety protection

DEM Fire is committed to first-class fire prevention across the property, commercial and industrial sectors. As part of our comprehensive capability, we undertake and submit all fire compliance requirements, including Annual Fire Safety Statements.

Annual Fire Safety Statements are a key component of your fire compliance, and they must be submitted to council every year. They confirm that a Competent Fire Safety Practitioner (CFSP) has inspected, assessed and verified each Fire Safety Measure applied to the property and listed in the Fire Safety Schedule held by council.

There are two types of Fire Safety Statements. An Annual Fire Safety Statement must include all the Fire Safety Measures that apply to a building and verify that a CFSP has inspected and confirmed that the exit systems in the building meet compliance regulations. A supplementary Fire Safety Statement is issued at more regular intervals, dependent on critical Fire Safety Measures.

DEM - Changes to Annual Fire Safety

Changes to Annual Fire Safety Statements

In 2017, the NSW Government introduced reforms through the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000, designed to strengthen fire safety certification for new and existing buildings.

The amendment required all fire compliance and testing to be undertaken only by CFSPs, a new title that replaced the term ‘properly qualified person’ used in the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000. Subsequently, as of 1 July 2020, the title was changed again to ‘Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety)’.

The FPAA, which since 2013 has recognised the skills and competencies of individuals working in the fire protection industry across all Australian state and territory jurisdictions, steered the process for CFSP accreditation. In response to the changing legislation, the FPAA added to the FPAS scheme an accreditation class for fire safety assessors, and it is currently the sole accreditation process.

Annual Fire Safety Inspections

DEM Fire is committed to first-class fire protection and quality assurance in everything we do.

As the above indicates, it is critical that Annual Fire Safety work only be conducted by practitioners with full accreditation – and an accreditation number – from FPAS. The additional FPAS audit process – which we have successfully passed – ensures our work meets exacting standards.

We have accredited, dedicated and highly skilled team members available to complete all of your fire compliance requirements.

Our team will conduct the inspections, assess safety measures and confirm that all systems and equipment are operating effectively to the relevant standards. We compile a comprehensive report for every customer, and submit it directly to you, and to council as required.
